Pre-K- Scavenger Hunt (All Seasons)
Description: Students will use pictures of animals to find the real thing throughout the building.

Kindergarten - Discovering Patterns and Textures in Nature (All Seasons) Description: Students will recognize patterns and textures in natural objects. Simple classifying and identifying will be involved.

First Grade - Animal Homes (All Seasons)
Description: Students will do a field study of animal habitats. Classifying, graphing, and data collection are involved.

Second Grade - Tree Identification (Spring & Fall)
Description: Students will learn the basics of tree anatomy and classification by collecting leaves and observing bark. A Leaf Press will be made.

Earthworms and Composting (Winter)
Description: Students will learn the basics of animal classification through an edible science activity. Recycling and composting will be covered.

Third– Fifth Grade - From Bees to Beans (Spring & Fall)
Description: Students will study flowers, insects, and pollination with emphasis on the interdependence of plants, animals, and their environment. Flowers and bean seeds will be dissected.

Rocks, Fossils, & Minerals (All Seasons)
Description: Students will learn to distinguish rocks and minerals by performing scratch tests, observing color and clarity, and by using streak plates to determine streak color. Students will study fossils common to Alabama .

Bats and Endangered Species (Winter)
Description: Students will be introduced to bats, a common but misunderstood animal of Alabama . Highlighting some of the endangered species of Alabama will cover the concept of endangered species.

Native Americans, Our First Conservationists
Description: Students will study and learn from the conservation and wise use practices of Native Americans.

Fourth-Fifth Grade - Birds (Spring & Fall)
Description: Students will learn the basics of bird anatomy, bird watching, and bird identification. Students will decorate their own bird journal.

Owls and Raptors (Winter)
Description: Students will be introduced to the food chain and the biology of raptors through the dissection of owl pellets

Fifth - Eighth Grade - Pond & Stream (Spring & Fall)
Description: Water quality will be discussed and sampling techniques will be demonstrated. Students will identify stream macroinvertebrates. Students will make a fish print on a T-shirt.

Note: We are now offering special programs for high school science classes – ex, water quality, endangered species, herpetology. We can also customize a program for you, or adapt existing programs to meet the needs of your students or grade level.

Outreach Programs:

The Turtle Point Staff will visit your school with live animals, art projects, and lots of great information. All we need is an hour with your class. Outreach programs can be scheduled in your classroom or library. We will do a maximum of 3 programs per day at your school. Choose from the following topics:
